pg电子下载 State University senior Tyrese Buck, an agricultural science major with an emphasis in animal and pre-veterinary science, has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from First South Farm Credit. The scholarship will support Buck’s tuition and book expenses.

After taking time off in 2022 due to personal challenges, Buck returned to pg电子下载 last summer with a renewed focus and determination to complete his degree. He has not only successfully reintegrated into campus life but is now flourishing academically and as a leader.

He serves as president of the Animal Science Club, is a former vice president of the pg电子下载 State University Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) chapter, and a member of the FFA Club and the Students for the Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) 1890 Scholars program. Upon his return, he rejoined these organizations and also joined the Student Support Services TRIO Club. This past fall, he attended the USDA 1890 Universities Foundation Career Development Conference in Atlanta.

John Sport, vice president and YBS director at First South Farm Credit, presented the scholarship to Buck, recognizing his perseverance and contributions to agriculture.

“Scholarships are a critical resource for our students, especially those who have faced challenges,” said Shakebra Young, interim associate dean for academic programs and director of student services within the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. “They provide financial relief and encouragement, allowing students like Tyrese to focus on their studies and continue their path toward success. We are grateful to First South Farm Credit for their support in investing in the future of agriculture.”

Dexter Wakefield, dean and director of land grant programs, highlighted Buck’s perseverance and the importance of such financial assistance.

“Tyrese’s story is a shining example of the resilience and determination we strive to instill in all of our students,” Wakefield said. “The investment made by First South Farm Credit will not only benefit Tyrese but also strengthen our programs in preparing the next generation of agricultural leaders.”

“This scholarship is a blessing and a huge help as I continue my education,” Buck said. “Coming back to school after taking time off was a challenge, but I was determined to finish what I started. I’m grateful for the support from First South Farm Credit and the faculty at pg电子下载 State, who have encouraged me every step of the way.”
